Misconceptions of coating antifoam selection
Jan 25, 2024Do you manufacture coatings? Are you using solid antifoam? Then you are in the wrong place. The coating industry recommends that you do not choose solid antifoams as coating antifoams for three reasons:
1. Easy to precipitate
The solid antifoam is usually added by splashing, and the viscosity of the coating is relatively large. Then if the solid antifoam particles are relatively small, it is very likely that the particles can not be effectively dissolved, and finally produce a large amount of precipitated material.
2. Poor compatibility
Due to the viscosity of the paint so that the solid antifoam particles can not be dissolved, part of it will form a precipitate, while another part may be interspersed in the paint, so that the paint produces impurities. Then the paint will have pores in the coating, affecting the overall effect.
3. Production cost increase
Due to the compatibility problem of solid antifoam in the coating and the problem of precipitation, the foam problem of the coating cannot be eliminated in time. Then it is necessary to add a large amount of antifoam, which will cause the overall production cost to increase. Even if the method of dissolving the solid antifoam in water first and then adding it will make the performance of solid antifoam greatly reduced.
The mineral oil antifoam developed and produced by our company is a metal soap and wax mineral oil-based antifoam, mainly used in paper coatings, water-based architectural coatings with emulsions and coatings prepared from these emulsions. Its water solubility, good dispersion, fast defoaming speed, long foam inhibition time. In addition, it is highly compatible, does not produce surface defects, and has no adverse effect on gloss. It can be widely used in water-based coating systems based on benzene propylene emulsion, silicone propylene emulsion, all-propylene emulsion, vinegar propylene vinegar butyl emulsion, etc.
